FCC Issues Second Warning to Owners of Radio Antinna Structures after Ambulance Helicopter Nearly Hites Unlit Radio Tower in Florida (fcc) Following a second incident in less than a month, this one in Florida, where a helicopter ambulanc nearly hit an unlit radio antenna, the federal corupet communications commission today once again warned owners of antenna stuctures to comply stricly with fcc antenna tower lighting and marking rules. The latest incident occurred near Arcadia, Fla. on Dec21, 1998, where the helicopter, on an urgent nighttime emergency call wase forced to " alter its approch pattern " when the pilot unexpectedly encounter a nearby unlit 500 ft antenna that wase under construction with out temporary warning lights.After being notified of this event by helicoter comp. the fcc's Tampa office investigated, cofirmed that the tower wase unlit, and took steps to ensure that the tower wase promptly lit. FM Bandsan Tree Radio Berkeley Since Stephen Dunifer was ordered to cease broadcasting, Free Radio Berkeley has not ended. One of the most recent actions topped FRB in terms of local publicity.Several radio activist hoisted a radio transmitter,batteries, and audio equipment high into a tree on a street in Berkeley and broadcasted around the clock over the Thanksiving holiday. The fcc visited the station and attempted to serve papers against the oerators, but they found no way to get the papers up the tree. According to Paul Griffin of the AMPB, after days of continuous broadcasting, the operators got tired and felt thay had made their point. NAB,LPFM, and the FCC Here's the Nabs latest action with the whole LPFM deal. So far the FCC is standing by it's Jan 28 rulemaking proposal date. but hey they got a couple of day to change thir minds. Either the NAB is worried about all the media attention LPFM is gitting or they see that thay can only prolong the new rule making for so long so they can if this LPFM dose go dowen. The NAB aint doin nothing but protecting their owen intrest but this might mean an fcc decision one way are the other is coming soon.
